NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Department of Photography and Imaging is featuring selected photo-based works from our most recently graduated alumni, the class of 2017. The images are varied, exploring themes of identity, history, intimacy, family, community, the vernacular and even image-making itself. These artists take inspiration from the rich tradition of the history of the medium as well as contemporary expressions in new and emerging media. Our exhibit reflects the exceptional range of artists who have been encouraged to discover and develop a singular vision. It reveals our students as visually eloquent image-makers and perceptive observers immersed in the world and cultures of today.

Students of Photography & Imaging at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts learn how to think critically, and take risks while finding their own creative voice. Centered on the making and understanding of images, this program offers students both the intensive focus of an arts curriculum while demanding a broad grounding in the liberal arts. Our department embraces multiple perspectives, with majors working in virtually all modes of analog and digital photo-based image-making and multimedia. Students work closely with faculty advisors to design a rigorous program of study that supports their distinct career plans while challenging them to expand their conceptual and technical boundaries.
