Scenes Unseen: The Summer of ’78

Idled by a newspaper strike in the summer of 1978, eight New York Times staff photographers were enlisted by the New York City parks commissioner to document a summer in the city’s parks. The images sat unseen for 40 years and were recently discovered by a conservancy official cleaning out an office.
