NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts Department of Photography and Imaging is featuring photo-based works from some of our most recent alumni; graduates of 2016. These works are varied, exploring themes of identity, intimacy, family, community, the vernacular, history, and image-making itself. These photographers take inspiration from the rich tradition of the history of the medium, as well as work in new and emerging media. This exhibit shows our students as visually eloquent image-makers and perceptive observers, genuinely immersed in the world and culture of today.

ORGANIZATION BIO

Students of Photography and Imaging at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts learn how to think critically and take risks while finding their own creative voice. Centered on the making and understanding of images, this program offers students both the intensive focus of an arts curriculum while demanding a broad grounding in the liberal arts. Our department embraces multiple perspectives, with majors working in virtually all modes of analog and digital photo-based image-making and multimedia. As a Photography and Imaging major, you’ll work closely with faculty advisors to design a rigorous program of study that suits your passions, and challenges you to expand your conceptual and technical boundaries. Alumni go on to publish in national newspapers and magazines, work in community art and museums, and become art critics, documentary photographers, photojournalists, filmmakers, and graphic designers.
