Students from neighborhoods across New York City present work from a digital photography internship that centered on fashion and commercial photography. The goals of this program were to empower participants, develop their personal voice as artists, teach them to harness the power of visual imagery, and learn about the workings of the commercial photography industry.

The JustArts Photography Internship Project was presented by Red Hook Community Justice Center in partnership with Brooklyn Arts Council and United Photo Industries. The program was made possible, in part, by public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and by New York City Council Member Carlos Menchaca through the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. Additional funding was provided by the Robin Hood Foundation.

This project employs professional photographers to teach participants photography skills and engages students through a series of workshops, class critiques, field trips, and culminates in a final exhibit. Teaching Artists Nathan Bett and Sam Barzilay of United Photo Industries, in collaboration with Teaching Assistant Carmen Bermejo on staff at the Red Hook Community Justice Center, and Producers Helena Seward and Sabrina Banta at Red Hook Labs facilitated these workshops in which students crafted images from their own unique perspectives.
