Most photographers will tell you that finding new clients and locking down quality work is an ongoing challenge — and a big one at that. In this panel, we’ll address this head on and share tips, advice and lessons learned from photographers, photo editors and art producers on how to land a job. We’ll discuss the best ways for you to connect with potential clients and what photo editors truly want. We’ll also dig into how to negotiate a contract and share tips to secure your best deal. The goal is to walk away with fresh ideas to help reel in your next client and make the money you deserve.

PANELIST BIO

Amy Wolff is the Director of Photography at Hearst Enthusiast Group, overseeing both print and digital content for Runner’s World and Bicycling. She is also the co-founder and art consultant of CoEdit Collection, co-producer of Inspired Live, and serves as a volunteer mentor for students at NYC SALT.

 

Drew Gurian is a New York City-based portrait and lifestyle photographer. He has worked extensively on projects ranging from ad and marketing campaigns to celebrity portraits for brands and editorial clients. He has photographed a variety of personalities including Kendrick Lamar, the cast of The Hunger Games, and President Barack Obama in the White House. He even has a selfie with Bo, the former First Dog.
Drew’s career began as a photo assistant at Kraft Foods, where he once starred as Mr. Peanut in a Planters Peanuts Super Bowl ad. While in college, he interned for two world-renowned photographers, Joe McNally and Danny Clinch.
After completing his undergrad, Drew spent five years traveling the globe with Joe McNally, as his first assistant and right-hand man, logging close to half a million miles in the air.

Drew currently lives and maintains a photo studio in Brooklyn, New York. He loves collaborating on productions of all sizes and works quickly under pressure to deliver memorable and emotionally charged imagery of celebrities in and out of the spotlight.
He’s available for projects worldwide, and would love to speak with you.

 

Lyne Lucien is currently a photo editor at The Daily Beast and at New York Magazine’s The Strategist. She has previously worked at Refinery29 and Architectural Digest, producing a variety of shoots and making original graphics.

 

Kari Anderson has worked with a group of talented photographers and digital artists at Glasshouse Assignment for five years, growing the group from five artists to thirteen. She is continually looking at new talent that may be good matches for their developing client list. She has had a diverse career beginning with freelance photo assisting and shooting commercial ads before becoming an Art Buyer/Producer in numerous ad agencies. She was on the ad agency side for nearly two decades, and has been an artist representative for nine years. She is excited and passionate about photography, retouching and helping clients find great creative talent.

Ray “Neutron” Spears – You can call him Ray. He got the nickname “neutron” from a girl in high school for his nerdy tendencies and large cranium. Years later, that same girl married him. Be careful who you pick on. They run a magazine together, called TYPICAL  — an online publication exploring the conversations and concerns of everyday people.

Ray’s work ranges from tour photography with musicians to commercial assignments and fashion.
