ARTIST BIO

John Chakeres
First Fleet: NASA’s Space Shuttle Program 1981–1986
First Fleet began more than thirty years ago with the launch of the first Space Shutt le Columbia in 1981. The images in First Fleet are a never-before-seen look at the sensational launch and landing operations of the four original space shu ttles.

Amy Gelb
As Is: Women Exposed
As Is consists of female nudes made in studio se ttings without arti fice or glamour. Amy Gelb’s plain-spoken, yet graceful portraits let the viewer redefi ne the true meaning of beauty. By cropping closely into her subjects, Gelb literalizes the compartmentalization of the female form and recreates the fragmentation of a woman’s identity.

Andrew Moisey

American Fraternity provides an intimate and provocative look at Greek culture on college campuses by inserting contemporary photographs into the pages of a sixty-year-old ritual manual. His book will shed first light on the peculiarities of college fraternal orders which count most modern United States presidents, senators, justices, and executives among their members.

Peggy Nolan
Real Pictures: Tales of a Badass Grandma
Tales of a Badass Grandma is the result of many decades of photographs recording the day-to-day workings of a large family. As Chris Wiley of the New Yorker says “Th ere is a tenderness and a sensitivity in these pictures of family that cannot be faked. Nolan is not embedded with her subjects, she is entwined. As such, the pictures not only show that she has an eye, but also a heart.”

Tema Stauffer
Upstate: A Portrait of a Post-industrial City Along the Hudson
Upstate examines the industrial and agricultural legacy around Hudson, New York. Combining poetic landscapes and interiors with portraiture, Tema Stauff er captures sublime elements of the landscape while also revealing the shift ing economic realities of the region.

Frank Van Riper
Recovered Memory: New York and Paris, 1960–1980
Recovered Memory is a meditation on time and place and an ode to the New York and Paris of yesteryear, before the Internet and 24/7 news. These two cities, connecting the Old World to the New, are widely considered to be the cultural capitals
of the West.
